Princeton University, founded in 1746, is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the United States and a member of the Ivy League. Its campus is located in the picturesque town of Princeton, New Jersey, about 80 kilometres from New York. Today, it enrols around 8,000 students, nearly two-thirds of whom are undergraduates. International students make up about 12% of undergraduates and over 40% of graduate students. For the 2026–2027 academic year, the full cost of tuition, accommodation, and meals for students living on campus is $90,260.
The university offers 37 areas of concentration and 54 interdisciplinary areas. Bachelor's degrees are awarded by the Undergraduate College, master's and doctoral degrees by the Graduate School, and specialised degrees by three professional schools: the School of Engineering and Applied Science, the School of Architecture, and the School of Public and International Affairs. Fields of study span architecture, astronomy, biomedical sciences, engineering, economics, environmental studies, law, management, medicine, music, psychology, and public health. The admissions committee selects about 4.4% of applicants, making admission one of the most competitive in the world.
Accommodation, Meals, and Pricing
Students are offered accommodation in one of six comfortable residential colleges. Each has cosy furnished rooms, dining halls, common rooms and study rooms, as well as gyms. The residential colleges have their own rules of conduct and traditions, and host creative and sports events. Meals are self-catering; students can also eat in cafés and dining halls on campus for an additional fee. Princeton follows a need-blind policy for international students: an applicant's financial situation does not affect the admission decision.
