Seattle Central College is a public community college located in the Capitol Hill area in downtown Seattle. It is the only community college in the city centre, next to which is the Capitol Hill Station light rail stop, connecting the campus with the University of Washington. Around 12,400 students study here annually, including about 1,100 international students from more than 50 countries. TIME magazine named the college "College of the Year," and The New York Times included it in a list of 11 institutions with the best transfer rates to universities.
The college offers three bachelor's programmes, around 24 associate degree programmes, and more than 50 professional certificates. About 40% of students prepare for transfer to four-year universities through the 2+2 scheme, and about 21% pursue applied specialisations in healthcare, information technology, business, and culinary arts. Applications are accepted year-round, and a decision on an application is usually made within a few days.
Accommodation, Meals, and Pricing
Students have three accommodation options. The Studios on Broadway complex operates on campus — 80-place apartments directly opposite the academic building. Rooms are designed for 2–4 people, each with a kitchen and bathroom. The cost depends on the duration and type of apartment: for a three-month stay in a double studio — $5,420, in a triple — $4,350, in a quadruple — $4,020. Additionally, a $300 restoration fee and a $300 refundable deposit are charged. Meals are not included in the cost, but there are grocery stores and cafés near the campus.
An alternative option is living with a host family. The cost starts from $665 per month with breakfast and from $850 per month with three meals a day. Families are selected through specialised agencies.
