Summer programmes at the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) give school students from around the world access to the academic environment of one of the most prestigious public universities in the United States. The campus, founded in 1868, is located on the picturesque San Francisco Bay, just 23 kilometres from the city centre. Participants in the Pre-College Scholars programme live right on campus, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in American student life. The programme is designed for students aged 15–17 with strong academic records. Participants choose two courses from Berkeley's summer sessions, earning UC Berkeley credits that can be transferred to other universities.
The academic component of the language course includes lectures and seminars with UC Berkeley faculty. Students can choose courses in architecture, biotechnology, business, computer science, engineering, environmental studies, neuroscience, psychology, and other fields. In addition to their studies, participants are offered college-preparatory workshops, campus and local sightseeing tours, and social events. The campus has a large outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, sports fields, and a modern sports centre with basketball courts.
